** Japanese man attacks EMS crew with guitar, steals ambulance

** Virginia EMT killed in ambulance/cement truck accident caused crash, police say

** Police in Osaka have arrested a man for attacking EMS staff with a guitar and then stealing their ambulance Friday. That is the word from Japan Today (January 8) which said the 10:30 p.m. incident played out after the man, 46, called EMS alleging his sick son required an ambulance. Upon arrival, the three man crew was also kicked by the aggravated resident. He then fled in the ambulance, lighting it up with sirens blaring. After heading onto the freeway where he hit several cars, he was arrested in Wakayama following a 20 minute high speed chase. Two of the EMS responders sustained minor injuries during the assault.

** A Friday accident in Buckingham County, Virginia, in which an ambulance hit a cement truck, was the fault of the paramedic. That is the word from WSET (January 9) which quoted police as saying Waynesboro resident Timothy Southern, who died in the crash, instigated the impact. According to the news site, the EMS patient involved, Howard Watson, 82, also passed away following the incident. A second passenger, as well as EMT Heath Davis, who was in the unit’s rear at the time, remain in stable condition. The cement truck driver, meanwhile, escape unscathed.
