** Decorated North Carolina combat medic found dead in his room

** North Carolina based US Navy corpsman killed in Afghanistan

** US military authorities in Afghanistan are investigating the sudden death of a decorated North Carolina based combat medic stationed at Fort Bragg. The Fayette Observer (September 13) said Staff Sgt. Keith Rudd, 36, who was assigned to the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, 82nd Airborne Division, was found unresponsive in his quarters in Parvan Saturday. Rudd, who signed on with the Army in 2003, had served in Iraq and was on a repeat duty tour in Afghanistan. Among his many commendations were three Air Medals, four Army Commendation Medals, and six Army Achievement Medals.

** A US Navy spokesman has confirmed the death of a Navy corpsman while on patrol in Helmand Province, Afghanistan Friday. The Military Community Examiner (Susy Raybon/September 12) said Petty Officer-Corpsman Brian K. Lundy, 25, died during a dismounted patrol in Marjah. Lundy was based out of Fort Lejeune, North Carolina. He served in a hospital with the II Marine Expeditionary Force. Lundy was originally from Austin, Texas.
