** Kentucky EMS Director killed in accident identified

** Nevada military medic killed in Iraq

** The female paramedic killed yesterday at an accident scene in Kentucky has been identified as Paintsville EMS Director Christa Burchett. Lex18 (January 22) said Burchett, who was taken to Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center following the crash, died at 10:04 a.m. Burchett was assisting a pregnant patient into the ambulance when an out of control coal truck plowed into both women. EMS had been hailed after patient Erica Brown was in a minor fender bender. Brown died at the scene.

** A military medic from Reno, Nevada has been killed in Iraq. The Charles City Press (January 22) said Army Staff Sgt. Sean Michael Gaul, 29, died January 9 in Diyala while participating in combat operations. Gaul, who died alongside five other soldiers, was inside a vehicle when it was hit by a bomb. Gaul, who was also a Ranger and trained sniper, enlisted in the army in 1999. He served in postings in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Lewis, Washington, and Vilseck, Germany. He leaves a wife and daughter behind. A memorial service has been scheduled for Saturday, January 26 in Reno.
