** Welsh medics face probe after child’s death

CANADA NEWS

** A Regina, Saskatchewan EMS crew escaped serious injury Saturday after being hit by a drunk driver while transporting another impaired person. The Regina Leader Post (January 21) said the incident, which occurred around 2:30 a.m., took place near the junction of 4th and Albert Street. According to the newspaper, the driver of the second vehicle is set to appear in court January 31. He has been charged with impaired driving, hit and run and exceed .08 driving.

WALES NEWS

** Two Swansea area paramedics remain suspended from their jobs, after a child released from their care by the infant’s parents died. The Evening Post (Liz Perkins/January 21) said the duo, who were removed from their posts in August, attended on the Neath Port Talbot terminally ill tot last May. According to the newspaper, medics remained on scene at the home for about an hour, but left after the parents signed a release. The parents, however, complained following the child’s death the next day. Unite union spokesman Rhodri Mugford said the suspensions are ridiculous, given the fact the parents signed a waiver dismissing paramedics. He also said EMS brass have delayed far too long in dealing with the case. Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman Andy Roughton countered Mugford’s comments, saying the process for looking into such matters was fair and would be followed.
