** Dallas, Texas paramedics who treated Ebola patient expected to remain in isolation for 3 weeks
** Alleged sexual assault victim of Nova Scotia paramedic takes the stand in court
UNITED STATES NEWS
** Three Dallas, Texas ambulance workers, who transported the US’s first confirmed Ebola case earlier this week, have so far tested negative for the virus. 5Newsonline (CNN/September 30) said the medics are currently in isolation and will remain so for about 3 weeks. The trio were gloved and masked when dealing with the patient because they suspected his ailment was infectious. No. 37, meanwhile, the EMS unit used to transport the man, has also been thoroughly decontaminated. It was, however, in use for 2 days before the case was confirmed. First Coast News (Jason Whitely/WFAA/October 1) said the vehicle is now parked and roped off with a biohazard red tape surrounding it. As a result of the situation, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) out of Atlanta have dispatched an investigatory team to the area. The group will seek out all individuals with whom the infected man came into contact.
CANADA NEWS
** The alleged sexual assault victim of a Kentville, Nova Scotia paramedic testified Monday in Windsor court against the practitioner. The Chronicle Herald (Ian Fairclough/September 30) said the Hants County 71-year-old told jurors James Duncan Keats assaulted her after she called EMS to treat her ill husband. According to the woman, Keats raped her in the upstairs bedroom after he offered to examine her when she complained of chest pain. She told the court the attack was the second one she had endured. She said Keats had also attacked her while in the ambulance several months prior. At that time, she had hailed EMS after suffering a fall. Along with the above mentioned case, Keats also faces charges involving sexual assaults on five other women between the ages of 24 and 64.
