** Saskatchewan paramedics fired for allegedly sleeping while on duty
** UK medic on trial for sexually assaulting 3 women
CANADA NEWS
** A group of paramedics in Northern Saskatchewan have been fired for allegedly sleeping while on duty. That is the word from Global News (CP/September 29) which said the practitioners involved, who worked for the Athabaskan Health Authority, have denied the allegation. According to the news station, the authority has also indicated it will refer the matter to the Saskatchewan College of Paramedics, claiming the medics’ actions were negligent. An unidentified practitioner said the terminations have resulted in inadequate EMS daytime cover in the northern part of the province .
UNITED KINGDOM NEWS
** Trial proceedings began Monday for an Ely paramedic charged with sexually assaulting 3 women between 2011 and 2012. The Newmarket Journal (September 30) said Colin Hakin, 53, denies the charges. According to the newspaper, Hakin allegedly pressed his body against one woman while making sexual noises. He also asked her to perform a sexual act on him. The second complainant alleges he touched her bottom while the third claims he kissed her and touched her breast. In all three instances, he asked the women, who were colleagues, to enter into an affair with him. A fourth woman also alleged misconduct. Currently, however, he remains suspended from the East of England Ambulance Service pending the outcome of the case.
