** Wiltshire police are investigating a Saturday incident in which someone pointed a laser pen at an air ambulance chopper flying over Allington. That is the word from The Gazette and Herald (Joanne Moore/October 2) which said the aircraft detected the laser around 10:25 p.m. as it was in its landing approach. Staff immediately hailed police, but authorities were unable to locate the culprits. The matter has now been referred to Crimestoppers. A Facebook post from the service said the prank could have endangered the lives of the crew. There was no patient on board at the time. A previous incident in March resulted in a Trowbridge man being fined, while two other laser attacks in June and September saw cautions issued for the teens and 7-year-old involved.

** A North Carolina man has been charged with two counts of assault after allegedly attacking two female medics Wednesday who were treating his girlfriend. The Fayetteville Observer (October 2) said Columbus County resident Randolph Marcus Smith, 33, was also tagged with attacking his girlfriend. According to the newspaper, Smith went berserk on the practitioners as they loaded the patient into the ambulance around 4 p.m. After dragging the woman off the stretcher, he then grabbed one of the female medics and slammed her into the ambulance door. Provider Sheila Denise Roberts, 46, suffered a right shoulder injury, while her partner Linda Gail Russ, 38, sustained a broken finger. Tabor City EMS Board of Directors Chairman Mike Worley said both medics will be off work for a time recovering from the attack. The ambulance meanwhile, sustained a warped door when Smith tossed Roberts into it.
