UNITED STATES NEWS
** One of the two teenaged victims found on a San Francisco runway after the crash landing of an Asiana Airlines Boeing 777 Saturday may have been run over by an arriving ambulance. That is the word from the Daily Mail (Michael Zennie/Lydia Warren/July 8) which said the unnamed 16-year-old may actually have survived the accident, dying only after being hit by an emergency rig. According to the newspaper, the coroner is examining the body to determine the girl’s cause of death. Both the mishap’s casualties, Ye MengYuan and Wang Linjia, were found outside the wrecked plane on the nearby tarmac. The two were a part of a group of 70 students and teachers on a summer trip. Initial information indicates the jet was flying slower than it should have been during its landing lead-up. The aircraft was inbound from Seoul, South Korea at the time.
** A California paramedic/firefighter is dead after being hit by a car at an MVA scene Friday. The Highland Community News (July 6) said Temecula resident Christopher Douglas, 41, died while attending a 9:30 a.m. call on Riverside County’s Highway 10. According to the newspaper, Douglas worked for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. Along with his EMS duties, he was a firefighter engineer. He leaves behind a pregnant wife Amy and a two-year-old son. Following news of the death, state Governor Jerry Brown ordered Capital flags lowered to half mast in Douglas’ honor. The Palm Desert Patch (Mirna Alfonso/July 7) said the driver of the car that struck Douglas on the freeway ramp was 60-years-old. Charges do not appear to be pending.
