** A suicidal Arkansas man was arrested Friday after allegedly threatening to hunt down and kill paramedics attempting to aid him. That is the word from NWAonline (Jeanette Anderton/June 24) which said Baxter County resident Herman Wenzel, 76, was charged with terroristic threatening in the first degree x 4. Wenzel, who is now out on a $25,000 bond, also threatened police at the scene. Deputies told the newspaper he had fired a rifle in an attempt to harm himself, but had missed. He let loose with his verbal challenge after being told he could either go to hospital voluntarily or potentially be detained for mental health evaluation.

** An Ipswich woman has been sentenced to nearly six years in jail after attacking a female paramedic with a hammer. The BBC (June 21) said Patricia Gosling, 55, was handed the decision Thursday in relation to the attack on Emma Cornford. According to the news service, Gosling, who suffers from mental health issues, hailed EMS to her home last November for chest pains. When told to call her GP, Gosling attacked Cornford, leaving the hammer embedded in the medic’s right hand. Gosling then hit her in the back as Cornford tried to flee. Cornford said she still has no feeling in her middle finger. A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, meanwhile, said the attack was totally unacceptable given that staff were there to aid Gosling.
