** Former female Massachusetts firefighter denied bail while awaiting retrial on charges she killed female EMT partner

** A former female Massachusetts firefighter, whose trial for allegedly murdering her lesbian EMT partner ended in a hung jury earlier this month, has been denied bail. That is the word from The Republic (AP/March 25) which said Cara Rintala, who was charged in the 2010 strangulation death of Cara Cochrane-Rintala, will remain behind bars until at least July 11th when a new trial date will be set. According to the newspaper, Rintala burst into tears after the ruling of Judge Mary-Lou Rupp. No explanation was offered for the decision.

** A Scottish Ambulance Service paramedic was injured Saturday after a yob tossed lit fireworks at his EMS unit. STV News (March 25) said the 8:30 p.m. attack in Glasgow played out with the driver of the prehospital rig stopping at a nearby ambulance station to call police. Sustaining an injury to his ear, he was then transported to the city’s Victoria Infirmary. Following the incident, police reviewed area CCTV footage and conducted door-to-door canvases to determine the culprits. A public appeal for information has also been issued.
