** Washington DC moves to Smart911

** Nebraska city paints curbs to aid paramedics in seeing house numbers

UNITED STATES NEWS

** In an effort to assist paramedics with more complete patient information, Washington D.C.’s dispatchers have moved to Smart911. Officially launched Thursday, the Sacramento Bee (July 12) said the new system allows residents to preload safety profiles which then pop up on dispatcher screens when help hails are issued. Along with home and work addresses, cell phone numbers, and medical conditions/disabilities, the information can also include rundowns on such things as additional family members, household pets and area obstructions. Smart911 software is a product of Rave Mobile Safety.

** Attempting to help paramedics see street addresses more easily when responding to calls has prompted one Nebraska city to paint the numbers on front curbs. That is the word from the Imperial Republican (Jan Schultz/July 12) which said the undertaking in Imperial is being done jointly by the city’s FFA and Future Business Leaders of America chapters. Initial curb painting began June 23rd, with the remainder expected to be complete by latter summer. Community development sales tax funds were used to pay for the project.
