** Florida man arrested for attacking and tackling in-ambulance paramedic

** Irish on-call ambulance doctor accused of delaying ambulance over missing scarf

UNITED STATES NEWS

** Florida police in Sarasota have arrested a man accused of socking an attending paramedic in the jaw while the duo were en route to hospital. That is the word from the Herald Tribune (March 12) which said David Bryan Bryant, 20, remains in jail after the unnamed EMT complained he attacked him as the former attempted to give the man an IV. Bryant then also allegedly tackled the medic in the February 26th incident. At the time of the alleged melee, Bryant was on probation for a January 2011 aggravated assault with a deadly weapon conviction. In that instance, he threatened a man with a knife.

** An Irish family is crying foul after an ambulance carrying their sick mother was delayed by a on-call doctor searching for her scarf. That is the bizarre contention of the Irish Times (Kitty Holland/March 12) which said the December 11, 2010 incident resulted in Dr. Maria Gordos being charged with professional misconduct and poor professional performance. According to the newspaper, Gordos’ actions are being scrutinized at a fitness to practice inquiry. Gordos, from Hungary, was called to attend on a 61-year-old heart attack patient. Along with declining to administer CPR on the woman before being prompted by the patient’s family, she also did not use a defibrillator. When EMS arrived, Gordos allegedly lingered in the home rather than preparing the ambulance since she was searching for her lost scarf. A paramedic present at the time, however, denies Gordos delayed the call. April 16th has been set for the next hearing.
