** Alberta paramedics frustrated with EMS;looking at leaving profession

** Florida paramedic charged after allegedly shoving police deputy

** A union sponsored survey in Alberta has found Calgary and area paramedics frustrated with inadequate staff numbers, poor morale, and ineffective management. That is the word from the Calgary Herald (Matt
McClure/March 2) which said poor dispatcher training is also contributing to concerns, with many saying both practitioners and patients are being placed in danger. According to the newspaper, many Calgary providers are looking at relocating to other provinces. Others are considering leaving the profession altogether. Health Sciences Association of Alberta (HSAA) president Elizabeth Ballermann said because of this her organization supports the EMS review announced last month by the province’s Health Minister.

** An Osceola County, Florida paramedic is on the hot seat after being accused of shoving a female police officer. WFTV (March 2) said James Stroup pushed Polk County Deputy Debra Martin after she stepped between him and another man. According to the newspaper, the other individual launched a gay slur at Stroup. The incident in currently under investigation. Stroup, meanwhile, is on paid administrative leave. He has been charged with battery on a law enforcement officer and disorderly conduct.
