** An Ohio paramedic crew in McDermott got a shock Tuesday when they arrived at a patient’s home for a scheduled medical pick-up only to find he’d been murdered. That is the word from WSAZ (September 6) which said the 8:36 a.m. incident involved Kenneth E. Layne, 45. According to the news site, authorities refused to indicate how Layne died. Autopsy results are pending. Along with the Scioto County coroner, the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are now looking into the case.

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** In an effort to help fund medical treatment for a badly burned toddler, a pair of Denbigh paramedics is undertaking a 500 mile charity bike ride. The Daily Post (Kate Forrester/September 6) said the fundraiser aims to help Flint resident Emmy Taylor, 3, who was critically injured in a fire in June. According to the newspaper, Taylor’s grandfather and uncle died in the blaze. Her grandmother, meanwhile, who is a paramedic, also sustained burns while rescuing Emmy. Emmy remains in hospital recovering and could be home next month. The ride starts September 12 and is expected to last about 8 days.
