** UK coroner criticizes EMS crew for poor treatment of stroke patient

** New York man charged with murder of disgraced EMT is himself shot to death

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** An East Sussex coroner has taken two paramedics to task for failing to properly attend a stroke patient who later died. That is the word from the BBC (March 24) which said Veronica Hamilton-Deeley said the practitioners made unkind and likely untrue comments to patient Steven Collingbourne, 43, when hailed to assist him last December 23. According to the newspaper, the medics dismissed Collingbourne’s ailment as an ear infection, saying hospital transport would only result in him waiting in an ER for treatment. A second crew also declined transport. Collingbourne died 2 days later. In elaborating on her verdict, Hamilton-Deeley said medics seemed strangely disinclined to take Collingbourne to hospital, with  EMS only making the trip when he was found unconscious and frothing at the mouth.

UNITED STATES NEWS

** A Brooklyn man, charged in the last summer killing of an EMT also in trouble with the law, has been shot to death. That is the word from the New York Post (Jamie Schram/March 24) which said Julio Locarno, 23, who shot medic Jason Green outside a nightclub, was killed near Prospect Park Wednesday night. According to the newspaper, Locarno was mortally wounded around 10:40 p.m. in what police are saying was a hail of bullets. Coming little more than a month after his February 18th arrest for Green’s murder, Locarno’s death is likely to be gang related. In the instance of his run-in with Green, Locarno had been charged with both manslaughter and gang assault.
