CANADA NEWS

** Nova Scotia police in Sydney have arrested a 15-year-old boy for pointing a laser at an in-flight air ambulance March 19. That is the word from CBC News (March 31) which said the teen also directed the light at two Air Canada Jazz flights approaching the local airport. According to the news site, the youth’s actions did not result in harm to any of the aircraft. Canadian Helicopters vice-president of safety and quality Walter Heenehan said the boy was likely merely playing around with the laser like a toy without thought to consequences. Because of the child’s age, restorative justice will be used to resolve the case. Under the Aeronautics Act, a conviction for pointing a laser at the cockpit of an aircraft can result in a $100,000 fine or five years in jail.
