CANADA NEWS

** The body of a military EMS unit member is on its way home to Ontario. That is the word from The Can West News Service (Kelly Cryderman/November 18) which said a ramp ceremony for 5th Field Ambulance Cpl. Nicolas Raymond Beauchamp, 28, was held yesterday. Beauchamp, who was stationed in Valcartier, Quebec, died alongside fellow soldier Pte. Michel Levesque, 25, Friday. The pair had been journeying through the Sangisar region of Afghanistan when a roadside bomb exploded. Some 73 Canadian soldiers and one diplomat have now died while serving in Afghanistan.

WALES NEWS

** A Saturday night attack inside an ambulance in Cardiff has resulted in one of the medics sustaining facial injuries and a possible fractured rib. IC Wales (November 18) said the provider, who was treating a patient at the time, was set upon by a group of youths who boarded the unit without permission. One of the practitioners immediately hit an on-board panic alarm. A second paramedic was treated for shock after the attack. Both have now been released from hospital. Police are investigating.

** Mississauga, Ontario: Ferno Canada announced today that it is issuing a new price list to reflect the strength of the Canadian dollar versus the declining U.S. greenback. Since much of the broad line of patient handling and immobilization equipment that Ferno Canada distributes is manufactured by it’s parent Company, Ferno Washington, Inc in the United States, import prices have been greatly reduced due to the currency situation. ” We recognize that Emergency Services budgets are stretched far to thin at the best of times so anything we can do to pass on savings to these organizations in Canada will help to ensure that they are able to equip themselves with the newest models of products available on the market” says Bruce Whitaker, Managing Director of Ferno Canada. Ferno is a global leader in the provision of solutions to the Emergency Services, Emergency Preparedness and Mass Casualty industry sectors.
