** A Maryland man will spend 18 months in jail for the driving death of a Washington County EMS director. That is the word from the Herald Mail (October 27) which said Glenelg resident Jeffrey Daryl Neuman Jr., 19, pleaded guilty Thursday to negligent manslaughter. Neuman, who was 17 at the time of the June 14, 2012 incident, was behind the wheel of his BMW when it crossed the centre line into the path of the Nissan driven by Brigitte Heller, 51. Heller died 14 days later in hospital, while her daughter Brittany was treated and released. Neuman had been pulled over by police for speeding shortly before the crash. As part of a plea deal, thirteen charges were dismissed in the case. Among these was negligent homicide while under the influence and criminally negligent manslaughter. Following his release from jail, Neuman will serve 3 years supervised probation.
