** Louisiana family suing ambulance service over mother’s death
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Sterling, New Jersey man could spend the next thirteen years in jail after pleading guilty in the 2012 driving death of a Montclair paramedic. The Associated Press (July 18) said James Megget admitted Thursday to a tag of manslaughter in the November 19, 2012 demise of practitioner Keith Chipepo, 30. According to the newspaper, Megget, 30, was in his minivan when it hit an ambulance which then prompted collisions with a food truck and county bus. Along with Chipepo, ambulance patient Martha Conley, 58, also died from crash injuries. Sentencing, which will be done as per a plea deal, will be September 16th.
** A New Orleans family is suing a Louisiana ambulance service after their mother died when she contracted decubitus ulcers. The Louisiana Record (Andrew Stevens/July 17) said the suit, which was launched last month, alleges the service used a broken down ambulance to transport the woman which resulted in the development of new ulcers or aggravation of old ones. According to the allegation, the mother of Daniel and Arthur Harrington endured 6 hours in the dilapidated rig without air conditioning. Unspecified damages are being sought for wrongful death, the suffering of mental and physical pain, and the loss of companionship. Although Acadian Ambulance was originally named in the action, it was voluntarily dropped from the suit because it was not involved in the call. The remaining defendant is Care Ambulance Service Inc.
