** South African paramedic/firefighter dies after battle with COVID-19

** A Boksburg paramedic/firefighter is dead after losing his battle with COVID 19. That is the word from the Boksburg Advertiser (August 11) which said Renier Nel died August 3rd. According to the news site, Renier worked fire and EMS for 26 years and was recognized for being particularly skilled in high angle rope rescue. Along with his day job, Nel also did paramedic standby at local schools during rugby, netball, and other sporting events. He leaves to mourn his wife, two daughters, parents, and a brother. By way of tribute, schools tied ribbons at their gates to honor him. A drive by tribute was also done August 7th. A private family funeral service is pending.
