** A group of four Michigan medics from Southfield are now on leave after mistakenly declaring a live cerebral palsy patient dead Sunday. That is the word from The Detroit News (James David Dickson/August 26) which said the mistake was not discovered until the 20-year-old female woke up in the funeral home. Fire Chief Johnny Menifee said the four practitioners were suspended Monday. The group included a paramedic with 18 years in EMS, a paramedic with seven years in, and two EMTs. Menifee said an investigation has begun into how the mistake happened. The woman’s family is also looking into legal options. She, meanwhile, remains in hospital in critical condition.
