** Scottish Ambulance Service medics/dispatchers in the UK lose 78 days of time to bogus help hailers

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** Bogus 999 calls are apparently keeping Scottish Ambulance Service medics busy, with new stats showing the call outs have occupied 1874 hours of staff time over the last four years. STV (February 16) said the information pertains to 2014-15 and 2018-19. During that time, there were also 7460 fake help hails. Amounting to some 112, 469 minutes, the tally resulted in medics and dispatchers wasting 78 days of time. A Scottish government talking head condemned the fake calls, saying such pranks are not victimless crimes and result in needed resources being unnecessarily diverted. No solution to the problem, however, was offered.
