** South African paramedic, stabbed 28 times during October robbery, hopes to return to work in January

SOUTH AFRICA NEWS

** A Moot paramedic said he expects to be back on the job in January after being stabbed 28 times during a robbery on October 25th. The Pretoria Moot Rekord (November 25) said Rietfontein practitioner Nico Stapelberg said his wounds have healed and a pacemaker has been installed for sick sinus syndrome. Stapelberg said doctors remain unsure whether or not the condition resulted from the attack. Along with aspiring to return to the job, he has committed to a bike ride between Pretoria and Orania to raise awareness about violence directed against paramedics. Stapelberg was shot by four robbers at a local café after returning from the Norther Cape. Although he turned over his wallet and a pair of sunglasses, he said he was stabbed when he told them he did not have a cellphone.
