** New South Wales paramedics association against body cam trial

AUSTRALIA NEWS

** Having New South Wales paramedics wear body cams on calls will do nothing to reduce violence against practitioners and is just a publicity move and band-aid cure. That is the word from the APA (November 21) which quoted the Australian Paramedics Association (NSW) as saying they are not in support of the move, despite attempting to negotiate details of camera trial with EMS brass. According to the news service, APA Secretary Gary Wilson called the approach a “box ticking exercise.” Wilson said the trial does not adequately address privacy issues, policy/procedures, and trial evaluation criteria. In addition, Wilson said some evidence indicates body cams can lead to an increase in violence against wearers. The New South Wales Health Minister, meanwhile, announced the trial yesterday.
