** Oklahoma EMT charged with manslaughter in accident that killed patient

UNITED STATES NEWS

** Manslaughter charges have been leveled against an Oklahoma EMT in an August 2017 crash that killed an ambulance passenger. KOCO (Porsha Riley/October 20) said Oklahoma City medic Matthew Erickson, 35, was behind the wheel of the EMS unit when it left Interstate 44 and rolled. Both the attending paramedic and patient Carolyn Koch were ejected from the rig. Koch, 66, later died in hospital. Subsequent traffic analysis showed the ambulance was traveling around 90 mph just prior to the mishap. Erickson’s blood showed he had both anxiety and pain meds in his system at the time of the accident. Both of the drugs are known to potentially cause drowsiness. There is no word on his next court date.
