** Detroit medics and firefighters mandated to wear body armor

UNITED STATES NEWS

** Paramedics and firefighters in Detroit have been mandated to wear body armor. That is the word from WXYZ (Brian Abel/May 7) which said the new policy took effect yesterday. According to the news site, the dictate is not sitting well with Detroit’s firefighters association president. Mike Nevin said body armor is a response to the increasing violence being directed against EMS and fire personnel. He said the core problem, however, was the city’s crime rate continues to make it unsafe. Nevin said, however, until more police are on the streets, the anti-stab vests are welcomed.
