** Former Canadian Forces combat medic turned police officer sues Ontario driver in dragging incident

CANADA NEWS

** A former Canadian Forces combat medic in Mississauga turned police officer is suing the driver of a rented car that dragged him during a traffic stop two years ago. The Canada Newswire (April 9) said Ontario Provincial Police Constable Patrick Chatelain is taking the action after charges were dropped against Brampton resident Ian Green. According to the news site, Chatelain said the civil suit is now the only option open to him in relation to the September 4, 2017 incident. Along with losing consciousness after being dragged 100 metres, he also suffered a traumatic brain injury as a result of the mishap. He is seeking $4 million in damages from Green, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, and Aviva General Insurance Company. The action alleges the driver of the car drove both aggressively and abnormally fast, despite knowing Chatelain was hanging onto the driver’s side of the car. There is no word on when the suit will be heard in court.
