** Tennessee medic facing decade in prison for allegedly stealing morphine, replacing it with saline

UNITED STATES NEWS

** A Tennessee paramedic from Greene County has been indicted for allegedly stealing morphine by siphoning off the drug and replacing it with saline. That is the word from The Citizen Tribune (Robert Moore/April 10) which said a federal grand jury made their decision Tuesday. According to the newspaper, Smith, 41, is now facing up to 10 years in jail, though pundits think his penalty could be less because he has no previous felony convictions. Smith, who worked full time for Greene County between 2005 and 2018, also worked part time for Hawkins County EMS from May 2015 to August 2018. The charges against him relate to actions between March and November of 2018. It remains unclear how Smith’s ruse with the drugs was discovered. As of yet, no disciplinary action from The Tennessee Board of Emergency Services has been mounted against the medic. There is no word on his next court date.
