** New York man, who allegedly ran down and killed FDNY EMT two years ago, finally declared fit to stand trial

UNITED STATES NEWS

** Nearly two years after he allegedly ran down and killed a Fire Department of New York (FDNY) EMT with her own ambulance, a suspect in the killing has finally been declared fit to stand trial. That is the word from the New York Post (Georgett Roerts/Chris Perez/April 4) which said Jose Gonzalez was given the ruling Thursday. According to the newspaper, Gonzalez has fought his competency designation since the March 2017 murder of Yadira Arroyo, 42. He was declared unfit in 2018, but prosecutors prevailed after requesting a hearing on the matter. Three recent psychiatric examinations all found he was not too incapacitated to be tried in open court. His next date before a judge is May 16th. Arroyo’s aunt, meanwhile, Ali Acevedo-Hernandez, said she was pleased that things were moving forward, while Arroyo’s co-worker, Luis Montalvo, said the case had stagnated long enough.
