** UK man fined after kicking defibrillator down stairs while medics attended him

UNITED KINGDOM NEWS

** A Sunderland man has gotten off with a 235 pound fine after kicking a defibrillator down the stairs and damaging it while medics were trying to help him February 16th. That is the word from The Sunderland Echo (Rob Freeth/March 11) which said the sentence for Dean Stronach, 42, was given despite the fact he has racked up 82 previous convictions. According to the newspaper, a drunken Stronach claimed in court yesterday that he had no memory of the incident. Court heard events played out after a medic left the machine at the top of the stairs to check on Stronach in an upstairs bedroom. Stronach, who was still angry after an argument with his father, kicked the machine down the steps as he descended away from EMS. As a result of the broken defibrillator, the prehospital unit was taken out of service. By way of mitigating his actions, Stronach’s lawyer said his client was an alcoholic who had managed to stay out of trouble since 2012.
