** New York man accused of killing FDNY EMT scheduled for court appearance today to determine competence

** A New York man, accused of running down and killing a female FDNY medic with her own ambulance one year ago, is expected in court today. That is the word from NBC New York (Tracie Strahan/January 17) which said Jose Gonzalez will appear before a judge to determine whether or not he is fit to stand trial in the March 16, 2017 death of Bronx EMT Yadira Arroyo. Although Gonzalez pleaded not guilty last year, proceedings were stalled after a Department of Health assessment found he was incompetent to help with his own defence. The opinion was in stark contrast to that offered by a psychiatrist working for the district attorney who said Gonzalez is able to stand trial. If the latter is upheld, Gonzalez will go on trial in March. At the time of Gonzalez’ arrest, he tested positive for both PCP and marijuana.
