** Illinois paramedic convicted of sex offences against children; given probation only

** An Illinois paramedic from Elburn was given four years specialized sexual offender probation on Tuesday after being convicted of felony solicitation of a minor. The Chicago Tribune (Amanda Marrazzo/January 25) said Richard Herra, 50, who was also found guilty of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, has now been tasked with registering as a sex offender for life. Herra, whose victims were under the age of 17, must additionally pay $11,700 restitution. His probation conditions include completing sex offender treatment, polygraph tests, and random searches of electronic devices. Contact with children under 18 has also been restricted, with Herra having to seek advance approval to be around minor relatives. Specifics as to the details of his crimes were not available at press time.
