** Ohio police in Hardin County have identified a volunteer EMT killed Saturday in an ambulance/car crash as Krista McDonald. The Examiner (October 16) said McDonald, who was also a Bellefontaine Police Department dispatcher, died around 9:30 a.m. when a car ran a stop sign. According to the newspaper, the collision resulted in the EMS unit toppling onto its side. Both McDonald and her partner Peggy Eastman were ejected from the rig upon impact. Eastman was medevaced to Ohio State University’s Wexner Medical Center after suffering life threatening injuries. The ambulance was returning from a call and was not loaded with a patient at the time. Funeral services for McDonald are pending.

** A Johannesburg paramedic is dead after a Friday night crash with a car. That is the word from Eyewitness News (October 15) which said Emer-G-Med practitioner Jacqueline Coetzee died in Centurion along with the passenger in the other vehicle. The EMS unit was responding to a Pretoria MVA at the time. Two other paramedics remain in hospital in critical condition. There is no word on how the accident happened or who was at fault.
