** Germany ends trial of WWII Auschwitz medic due to latter’s dementia

GERMANY NEWS

** German authorities in Berlin have deemed a WWII Auschwitz medic no longer fit to stand trial for war crimes. That is the word from Reuters (September 12) which said Herbert Zafke, 96, suffers from dementia and is unable to understand the legal proceedings. According to the news service, Zafke had been charged with being an accessory to murder in the deaths of 3681 people in Nazi occupied Poland. The tags relate to a one month period beginning August 15, 1944. The trial’s end marks the conclusion of almost all Holocaust related prosecutions.
