** Louisiana medic hit by drunk driver at MVA scene; in stable condition in hospital

UNITED STATES NEWS

** A Baton Rouge, Louisiana EMT remains in stable condition in hospital after being struck at an MVA scene early Sunday morning. That is the word from WBRZ (June 27) which said the practitioner was hit along with five others, including a police officer and good Samaritan. According to the news site, the melee broke out around 1:30 a.m. on the I-10 when a car plowed through the accident scene. The medic involved was dragged by the car onto a grassy shoulder, sustaining serious but undisclosed wounds. Acadian Ambulance spokesman Justin Cox said six people suffered injuries, including broken bones, lacerated arteries, internal bleeding, and head trauma. Car driver William Smith, 25, who fled the scene, was believed to be intoxicated. Because he refused a breathalyzer upon apprehension, a blood sample was dispatched to the state police lab for analysis.
