** Sentencing delayed in still other cases of sexual assault against former Nova Scotia medic

** Former Mississippi army combat medic sentenced to jail for molesting female teen

CANADA NEWS

** Sentencing for a Nova Scotia paramedic, convicted of sexually assaulting female patients, has been delayed. That is the word from CBC (April 25) which said the fact the sentencing judge is ill and that medic James Duncan Keats is retaining a new lawyer are both factors. According to the news site, Keats was set to go to court yesterday. He has already been sentenced to four years in jail for sexually assaulting a 71-year-old woman in her home. He was also handed similar convictions in 3 out of 6 other sexual assault cases involving women. The remaining cases saw him acquitted in 2, with the third not even making it to trial. A spokesman for the Crown said efforts are being undertaken to have Keats declared a long-term offender. The designation would likely see him under a decade of supervision following the completion of his prison terms.

UNITED STATES NEWS

** A former combat medic from Mississippi will serve 5 years in jail for inappropriately touching a 12-year-old girl. The Republic (AP/April 25) said Bay St. Louis resident Anthony Milner was sentenced Thursday. According to the newspaper, Milner registered an open plea of guilty in which he did not admit culpability. Although Milner’s attorneys were asking for a 2 year prison term, the judge in the case handed him 15 with ten suspended. Milner must also register as a sex offender and will be tasked with paying a $3,000 fine for the 2013 crime.
