** Waterloo police in Iowa arrested a man Tuesday who allegedly stole an ambulance from a nearby
medical center. KCRG (February 23) said the 7:30 a.m. incident played out with the individual, who
was suffering from mental problems, taking the EMS unit from the ambulance bay. Along with
driving through a still closed garage door, Joshua Rohner, 36, (KCRG/February 23) also ditched
the vehicle a few short blocks away. According to police, the rig was located around 1 hour later.
Authorities arrested the man during another attempted vehicle heist. Brought into custody after a
brief chase, he has not yet been charged. By way of a precaution, police briefly locked down the
high school where the EMS unit was abandoned.
** Funeral services are pending for a female Canton, Ohio paramedic/firefighter who died Monday
after jumping into traffic. Fox 8 (Darcie Leonard/Jessica Dill/February 23) said Tonya Johnson,
43, was hit by a truck around 3:30 p.m. while traveling in Summit County. Johnson, who was off
duty at the time, apparently alighted from the vehicle during an argument with her husband.
The initial impact sparked others involving around 10 cars, but no one else was seriously injured.
Johnson, who was the mother of 3, had been with the Canton Fire Department for 18 years. At the
time of her death, she had been married for about 3 weeks.
