** Yet another EMS crew has been robbed at gunpoint, with the medics and patient forced to flee on
foot Friday to evade the gunman. The Sowetan (Naledi Shange/February 13) said the 4 a.m. incident
in Johannesburg occurred as the practitioners were treating the patient. According to the newspaper,
five armed men stole the wallet of the driver of the EMS unit, prompting the second practitioner
and patient to flee from the rear cab and hail a taxi. Upon arrival at the abandoned ambulance
police found the radio had been stolen. A similar incident occurred two weeks ago in Yeoville. A
police spokesman said there had recently been an upswing in such attacks.

** A Pennsylvania EMT from Greensburg has been charged with raping a woman. That is the word
from WTAE (February 15) which said Parker Foster, Jr., 60, allegedly committed the crime January
25 and 26th. According to the news service, he remains in jail due to being unable to post bond.
Police say the woman in question is the wife of a mechanic who was doing repair work
for Verona’s Guardian Angel Ambulance Company. Because she is mentally challenged, she is
unable to legally consent to sex. The woman indicated the first assault occurred after
she agreed to meet Foster at a separate location following an introduction at her husband’s
workplace. The second assault apparently took place the next day at company headquarters.
Foster remains suspended from his job pending the outcome of the case. He has been charged
with felony rape, felony involuntary deviate sexual intercourse x 1, sexual assault x 1, indecent
assault x 2, and simple assault x 2.
