** Former Nova Scotia paramedic vying for provincial NDP leadership

** A former Nova Scotia paramedic turned MLA is currently vying to become the leader of the
province’s New Democratic Party (NDP). That is the word from the CBC (Jean Laroche/February 17)
which said Dave Wilson is competing against two other contenders. According to the news service,
Wilson has served as the rep for Sackville-Cobequid for the past 12 years. Among the promises of
his platform are raising minimum wage to $15/hr, providing mental health emergency programs,
and mandating limits on the sizes of high school math and science classes. Online balloting is being
used, with the winner announced February 27th at the NDP convention in Halifax. The current
interim leader is Maureen MacDonald.
