** Nova Scotia paramedic arrested for child luring
** Wife of murdered Virginia paramedic still not found; her captor is now in hospital
CANADA NEWS
** A Nova Scotia paramedic from Nine Mile River has been charged with child luring. The Shelburne
County Coast Guard (Zane Woodford/January 27) said Eastern Health practitioner Todd Allen
Sawler, 44, was taken into custody Tuesday at a traffic stop. According to the newspaper, Sawler is
alleged to have sent inappropriate text messages to two girls, aged 11 and 12 in April of last year.
He was apparently posing as a 15-year-old boy at the time. As part of the investigation, police have
searched Sawler’s home and seized electronic devices that might support their case. Along with the
above mentioned charge, he has also been tagged with making sexually explicit material available to
a child. Sawler appeared in court Wednesday.
UNITED STATES NEWS
** The man believed responsible for murdering a Virginia paramedic and kidnapping his wife is
now in hospital with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. That is the word from WWBT
(Brent Solomon/January 27) which said Dana Williams opened fire on himself Tuesday as authorities
approached his van at a parking lot in Boston, Massachusetts. Currently in critical condition, Williams
did not tell police the location of Olene Brooks whom he took hostage after strangling to death Olene’s
husband Woodell. Police say Woodell was found dead and still strapped to a chair in his home.
Police in both Massachusetts and Virginia continue to scour the region in search of Olene.
However, Williams’ criminal record means the outcome may not be encouraging. At the time of last
Thursday’s home invasion, he had been out of prison for only a few months after serving time for
rape. According to several relatives of the Brooks’, Williams had been threatening to do them harm
for some time. His connection to the family lies in the fact that he is the father of two of Olene’s
grandchildren.
