** Nova Scotia medic’s trial goes to jury in yet another sexual assault case
** UK paramedic cries foul after allegedly being dragged from Uber cab and assaulted
CANADA NEWS
** Yet another sexual assault trial for a former Halifax, Nova Scotia paramedic has now gone to jury
deliberations. That is the word from CBC Nova Scotia (Jennifer Henderson/November 30) which said
the matter involving James Duncan Keats, 50, this time involves allegations made by four different
women. Keats’ previous conviction found him guilty of sexually assaulting the elderly female wife of
a patient. In that instance, he was given 4 years in jail. He has remained in custody since that time.
The current proceeding involves allegations of fondling and groping of the women’s breasts and
genital areas. Keats, who has again denied any wrongdoing, said all contact was part of a legitimate
medical exam. One other sexual assault case has yet to go to trial.
UNITED KINGDOM NEWS
** A non emergency paramedic from Kensington, West London has gone public after alleging police
refused to take a complaint from her about an Uber driver who punched her and called her profane
names. The Metro (Rob Waugh/November 30) said Taleka White, 27, who is black, claims the
Asian driver became enraged after she and a friend requested separate drop-offs Sunday. According
to the newspaper, White, who says she sustained two blows and ended up flat on the pavement
outside her parents’ home after being dragged from the vehicle, continues to recover and is now
off work. Following a call to 999, police told her it was useless to log the complaint, as it would
amount to only the driver’s word against her’s. A spokesman for Uber meanwhile, said they did not
tolerate violence or discrimination from their drivers.
