** Michigan police in Detroit have arrested an area EMT for alleged underage abuse and producing
and distributing child porn online. Fox2Detroit (Hannah Saunders/December 11) said Mark Astalos,
40, who has been an EMT for 13 years, was taken into custody after apparently showing up to a
meeting for sex with what he believed to be an underaged girl. According to the newspaper, Astalos
arranged the meeting with an undercover police officer pretending to be the girl’s mother. Astalos and
another man were told the girl was 14-years-old. If convicted, Astalos could face life in prison. He
remains suspended with pay, while the department pursues yanking his licence. His next court date
is December 23rd.
** A female Fire Department of New York (FDNY) EMT was arrested Saturday after throwing a beer
mug at a bartender during a Christmas event. That is the word from The Gothamist
(Ben Yokas/December 13) which said Gianella Robalina, 30, was taken into custody around
10:15 p.m. during Santacon. According to the newspaper, Robalina tossed the mug after a
disagreement over the tab, cutting the man’s nose. She has been charged with second degree assault.
