** Houston, Texas man, charged with murdering paramedic girlfriend, appears in court
** Michigan medics in Detroit not getting paid on time for shifts
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A Houston, Texas man, charged with the October 10th murder of his paramedic girlfriend,
appeared in court yesterday. ABC 13 (November 23) said Tom Aaron Clay, 42, made his
appearance after several weeks on the run in Mexico. According to the news site, Clay allegedly
murdered North Cypress EMS medic Melissa Morden after accusing her of cheating on him.
He then fled south of border in Morden’s car, before being arrested and returned to Texas. Police
say Clay admitted in a phone call with Morden’s mother that he had killed Melissa. Following the
conversation, Morden’s mom found her daughter dead. Clay’s next court appearance is set for January.
** Detroit medics in Michigan are continuing to be plagued by payroll problems, with the latest
glitch seeing the city failing to issue some pay cheques until several days after pay day. That is the
word from WXYZ (November 20) which said city bean counters have explained away the tardy payments
by saying their system had issues. According to the newspaper, the incident is not an isolated one.
A fix was approved in May, but likely won’t be in place until sometime next year. Pundits have
observed that the problem only lends insult to injury, given that most EMS providers in the Detroit
ares paid a paltry $14 hour.
