** A Prince George’s County, Maryland man could serve up to 25 years in prison for a December 2014
incident in which he assaulted EMS responders, stole their ambulance, and then crashed the
prehospital rig into 12 cars, killing an elderly man. The Washington Post (Lynn Bui/November 4)
said Sebastian Isaksen, 34, pleaded guilty to a number of charges Wednesday, including
manslaughter, carjacking, and DUI. According to the newspapers, matters played out on the
Capital Beltway on December 14th around 6 p.m. after EMS witnessed an MVA in which Isaksen
plowed into the rear of another vehicle. After they stopped to offer assistance, Isaksen punched
one of the medics and then made off with the ambulance. He then lost control of the unit and hit
around 12 cars. One pregnant woman was injured in the crash, while Alvin Hargrave, 77, died.
Prosecutors say Isaksen’s blood alcohol level was over double the legal limit.
** A New Hampshire man made his first court appearance via video link Tuesday after being
arrested the day before for spitting on a female paramedic and attacking both a nurse and police
officers. The Union Leader (James A. Kimble/November 4) said Newmarket resident James
Meserve, 21, has been charged with obstruction of government administration and simple
assault x 3. According to the newspaper, EMS and police were called to Meserve’s home around
6:15 a.m.. for a possible Xanax overdose. Though Meserve was initially unconscious but breathing,
he rapidly became combative once he came around. Sparring with police officers as he was carried
to the ambulance, he began spitting at the female paramedic after he was restrained to the gurney.
Some of the sputum hit the woman in the eye. Once at hospital his aggression continued, with
Meserve allegedly kicking a female nurse in the groin as she attended to him around 1 p.m. A bail
hearing was held Wednesday. At press, time the results of the hearing were not yet available.
