** Oklahoma police in Tulsa arrested a drunk EMS patient Monday after the man allegedly
repeatedly grabbed a female medic’s buttocks, groin, and breasts, all the while spouting
obscenities at her. KRMG (Michael Purdy/November 24) said Lloyd Smith has been charged
with sexual battery and spreading infectious disease, as well as other tags. According to the
newspaper, Smith told police he had AIDs, although the specifics of the latter charge were not
explained. No stranger to the law, Smith already sports a conviction for assaulting an EMT
earlier this year.
** A Michigan paramedic will be cooling his heals in jail for the next 30 days after being sentenced
Monday for stealing liquid morphine and replacing it with saline. The Herald Palladium
(Julie Swidwa/November 24) said Berrien Springs resident Jason Russell, 40, was convicted
October 12th after pleading guilty to obtaining a controlled substance by fraud. As part of a
plea deal, narcotics possession charges and tags of adulterating or misbranding a drug or
medicine were dropped. Both were felonies. Along with his jail time, Russell will be on probation
for 2 years, continue out-patient drug treatment, and pay fines and fees of $1,898. Russell’s attorney
said Russell took the meds after becoming addicted to painkillers following a softball injury.
