** A Seminole County, Florida paramedic/firefighter is dead after an off-duty motorcycle crash
saw her bike hit by a truck Sunday morning. That is the word from MyNews13 (October 5) which
said the 11 a.m. Apopka accident killed both medic Diana Gilboy, 43, and her passenger Sarah Post,
34. The pair, who were with a bunch of other riders, were struck after the truck made a left turn in
front of them. The driver of the truck suffered serious injuries upon impact and could be charged
in the accident. His passenger, meanwhile, told police the crash happened in a blind spot on a hill.
** A Chicago EMT is being applauded for helping to save a potential suicide victim Friday night.
The Boston Globe (Sarah Roberts/October 5) said medic Christopher Baril got the cudos after
preventing a man from jumping from a bridge in the southern part of the city. According to the
newspaper, Baril happened upon the man as he was transporting a stable patient to Tufts Medical
Center around 10 p.m. Seeing the person hovering around the bridge’s edge, he stopped the
EMS unit, got out, and managed to grab the man before he took a plunge. Baril then called for a
second ambulance to transport the person to hospital. Boston EMS spokesman Juli Hanscom
said the service was pleased Baril was getting recognition for saving a life.
