** A Thursday morning accident in Merced County has claimed the life of a California paramedic.
The Patterson Irrigator (September 10) said Riggs Ambulance medic Dallas Hernandez, 21, died after the car
he was in rear ended a tractor trailer at a stop sign around 2 a.m. According to the newspaper, Hernandez,
who was also a volunteer firefighter, succumbed at the scene. His girlfriend survived the impact, but sustained
major injuries. Funeral services are pending.
** A Georgia paramedic/firefighter has been arrested after allegedly burning down the mobile home of some
friends September 4th. The Moultrie Observer (Kevin C. Hall/September 10) said Moultrie resident Travis
Alton Boyd, 45, has been charged with arson x 3 and burglary. According to the newspaper, Boyd allegedly
lit up the residence while the occupants were actually visiting his own home. After prompting a neighbour to
call 911, Boyd apparently responded to the fire he himself had set. Along with the arson charges, Boyd is
wanted on a failure to appear relating to a Camden County traffic charge. Following the fire, he was terminated
from his prehospital job with Colquitt Regional EMS. A police spokesman said, however, the sacking was not
related to the fire.
