** Utah medic in critical condition after psyche patient grabs wheel, rolls ambulance
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A volunteer Utah EMT, injured Friday when a psychiatric patient grabbed the wheel and rolled the ambulance, remains in critical condition in hospital. That is the word from KSL (Faith Heaton Jolley/July 28) which said Juab County EMS medic Elton Castleman is suffering from undisclosed injuries. According to the news site, the accident happened around 2:30 a.m. after the psyche patient managed to free himself from stretcher restraints. Initially requesting that the rear cab lights be dimmed, he used the darkness to squeeze through the window separating the rear from the driver’s compartment. First grabbing the ignition keys, he then got ahold of the wheel, causing the unit to flip. The second EMT was transported to hospital, but was released later that day. The patient, meanwhile, has been charged with aggravated assault. A police spokesman, however, said the tag may be dropped due to the man’s alleged diminished mental capacity. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist Castleman with medical expenses.
