** Former US Army combat medic from California sentenced for defacing police LODD monument
SOUTH AFRICA NEWS
** A pair of Johannesburg paramedics have been fired after failing to notice that a pregnant patient had fallen out the rear of their moving ambulance. New 24 (Adam Wakefield/July 30) said the pair, who were both in the driver’s cab at the time, were made aware of the woman’s plight after being alerted by a tailing motorist. According to the newspaper, the September 2014 incident saw the woman sustain undisclosed injuries. A spokesman for the Eastern Cape service said the two medics violated policy by failing to have one of them attend the woman during the transport.
UNITED STATES NEWS
** A former US Army combat medic from California has been sentenced to 1 year probation and 50 hours community service for defacing a monument dedicated to Fresno’s police force. That is the word from The Fresno Bee (Rory Appleton/July 30) which said Brian David Sumner, 26, claimed chalking up the statue to law enforcement LODDs in June 2014 was his way of supporting free speech. According to the newspaper, Sumner committed the vandalism during a demonstration against police over-steps. Along with the above mentioned sentence, Sumner was also tagged with $200 in fines and $50 to pay to clean the undamaged monument.
