** San Antonio, Texas police have arrested a second person in connection with the shooting death of a former US Army combat medic. KSAT (Stephanie Serna/July 22) said Jennifer Johnson, 26, was taken into custody Wednesday evening in relation to the death of Pilar Horton-Garcia, 33. According to the news site, police allege Johnson was present when her boyfriend Zachary Duncan felled Garcia with a shot to the head. Charged with murder, police said her failure to intervene to prevent Garcia’s death means she shares culpability with Duncan who remains in custody.

** Three Ottawa, Ontario police officers are due in court September 8th after being charged in a June 2014 training accident that injured two paramedics. 610 CKTB (CP/July 23) said the trio face tags including criminal negligence causing bodily harm and breach of duty relating to an explosive substance. The three paramedics, who continue to recover, were injured when an incendiary device exploded during a tactical training exercise. The medics sustained burns to their hands, legs, and other areas. A total of five people were hurt in the blast. Around 40 people were taking part in the exercise at the time (Laura Stone/Global News/June 18, 2014).
